Jobs Description :

 The Cambodian Center for Human Rights (“CCHR”), a non-aligned, independent, and non-governmental organization that works to promote and protect democracy and respect for human rights –primarily civil and political rights – throughout the Kingdom of Cambodia, is seeking a dynamic and professional Cambodian to fill the position of Project Officer for the Promoting and Protecting Freedom of Expression and Independent Media in Cambodia Project for 26 months.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Coordinator to plan and implement the Project and ensure the Project realizes its aims;
  • Conduct field monitoring and media monitoring of violations of freedom of expression and independent media cases.
  • Assist project coordinator in developing written and multimedia information, analyses and recommendation, media alerts, press release;
  • Organize and facilitate the Project’s radio talk shows;
  • Organize project events including workshops, camps and any relevant project meetings/events;
  • Document, monitor and update all cases supports provided by the project;
  • Coordinate the cases with clients and with the existing CCHR’s project’s committee;
  • Work closely with the project coordinator to develop evidence based advocacy relating to freedom of expression/independent media at both the local and international level and to conduct advocacy and campaign as set in the project objectives;
  • Assist the project coordinator to draft the report to donor and other project publications; and
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Project Coordinator and the organization.

Job Requirment :

  • University degree in human rights, law, social sciences or a related subject;
  • At least two years’ experience of providing project support, coordinating cases, organizing and conducting events related to freedom of expression and independent media;  
  • Experience in developing training materials, and facilitating the training of vulnerable groups;
  • Demonstrated interest in human rights and human rights defenders/activists and journalists;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Khmer and English;
  • Knowledge of international and domestic law related to freedom of expression, independent media and human rights;
  • Strong computer literacy (including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, of the Internet and e-mail);
  • Be able to work independently and in a team with high levels of responsibility;
  • Be able to share knowledge and experiences of work within the team work and work independently;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure on challenging and sensitive issues; and
  • Ability to think strategically; and experience in report writing.
